the thesis statement

I think the thesis statement of this book is sort of live and let live because Billie Jo talks about and i quote(page 128) "but if i played right enough maybe they would see past my hands. Maybe they could feel at ease with me again, and maybe then,I could feel at ease with myself." this quote proves how she takes on the blame for her father and blames her self for what happened. So then we move on through the book even more when she comes to realize that she is not responsible for what happened and that her father is to blame and sort of at the same time she forgives him and herself and is realizing that.(page 206)this quote proves it"As we walk together, side by side ,in the swell of the dust ,I am forgiving him, step by step, for the pail of kerosene. As we walk together, side by side,in the sole-deep dust,I am forgiving myself for all the rest"
So in my opinion Billie Jo is finally accepting that she can't control every thing that happens and that she should mourn over her mother but not take on the weight of her as guilt and bringing that back to my main point (live and let live is the thesis statement)her mother died but she shouldn't carry that around for her whole life (her hands being a silent reminder )and in the end she drops the weight of her guilt which proves my let live part of it (can't carry around guilt forever and if you did it would suck)so what do you think Give me your Ideas and thoughts.

  1. Dylyn I think your post is amazing, it brought all those ideas into one good job! I agree with you that the thesis statement is live and let live, and the quotes you chose prove your point that the thesis statement is what you said it was. I like the part in your post when you said "her mother died but she shouldn't carry that around for her whole life (her hands being a silent reminder)" I liked the last part especially (I like the template you chose it, reminds me of the landscape in the book, except that I find the landscape I imagine is more hopeful and less grey don't know why). :)

  3. Hi Dylyn and Callie I agreee with your thesis statement of like to sort of move on and not blame yourself and others forever. I also think like we disscused that it would be to not forget about what happened because she would not want to forget her mother. She would sort of want to remember the positive and forget the negative I guess. I think that what made Billie Jo forgive herself and her father was because she did it right after she tried to run away out of the dust. I think that maybe somethig happened when she met that guy on the train who left her a picture of his family. - She maybe thought that she would'nt survive without her father and maybe that she would never be able to forgive him if she ran away and she would never be able to forgive herself. She probably thought that her life would sort of be wrecked because of the guilt that grew inside her. Now after she forgave her farther she was able to connect with him and they were both way more accepting of each other. Thoughts ideas?
