I was reading page 226 and I came across a section that said "Daddy bought a second mule with Louise's help. Her betrothal gift to him......"and I'm not sure that every one picked up on this but betrothal means engagement so basically Louise is engaged to Billie Jo's father I'm not really sure how Billie Jo feels about this maybe she s thinking positive because she did forgive her father (sort of) so maybe she feels like this is a replacement of her mother what do you think?
Hi Dylyn great idea. I think that at first Billie Jo does not think that she can ever replace her mother and Billie Jo was afraid that Louise might get in between her and her dad. To prove that on page 215 it says" Louise is back at the house she wanted to come but this is Ma's place Ma's grave Franklin's too and Lousie has no buissness being here She wants to come with us well I won't let her..."Daddy says she could have come there's rooom enough for everyone Billie Jo But there's not She can come into ma's kitchen She can hang around the barn She can sit beside daddy when he drives the truck But Ma's bones are in this hill Ma's and Franklin's And their bones would'nt like it if Louise came walking up here between us." That would state that maybe she thinks that Louise will never be like her mom. Also I think that she is feeling inside that Louise might get between her and her dad. Then at the very end of the book I think she sort of see's her in a different way and is more positive about Louise and her dad being together. Then on page 224 it says "my lids sighed shut and Daddy walked ith Louise instead of me out ma and franklins grave where he let Ma know his intensions And ma's bones did'nt object nethier did mine." This quote would state that Billie Jo has now thought of the bright side and likes Louise and will let her fall in love with her dad. I think that she just needed to get used to it.
